Chemistry & Polymer Science - Lecturer in Chemistry (any field) or Polymer Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry & Polymer Science boasts active research groups in various disciplines of modern chemical sciences.  This vacancy currently has to be filled to strengthen both research and teaching within the Department.  The position specialises in first-year teaching and in chemical education research.

Duties:
• Teaching in all classical fields of Chemistry, mainly at first-year level;
• Being closely involved with course design (including practicals) and in organisational aspects of the first-year intake of the department;
• Developing the research programme in Chemistry education;
• Networking and collaborating with peers in this field of research;
• Actively participating in departmental activities.

• PhD in Chemistry;
• Postdoctoral experience in research on chemical education;
• Ability to teach effectively at all undergraduate levels;
• Ability and proven successes as lecturer of first-year Chemistry students;
• Proficiency in Afrikaans (essential);
• Proven dedication to chemical education and teaching methodology research;
• Experience in research and development of teaching methodology, as well as an existing network of academic peers and collaborative research in this field.

Recommendations:
• Recent publications in chemical education research;
• Potential to develop a chemical education research programme which will lead to referred publications.

Commencement of duties: January 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter
