The Biovac Institute is a locally-based vaccine manufacturing and distribution company. One of the Company’s objectives is to develop and establish a strong and locally relevant vaccine R & D capability in South Africa. We are currently have a position for a Scientist in the R&D Fermentation Platform to accelerate the development of an affordable vaccine against Streptococcus pneumoniae. We are looking for candidates that have fermentation experience and are also able to work across different platforms e.g Conjugation, Purification etc. as required.
R&D Scientist
Principal duties:
· Development of robust, scaleable and reproducible fermentation and down stream purification processes in accordance with cGMP.
· Development and optimization of required analytical methods.
· Data collection, analysis and technical reporting both written and oral.
· Planning, preparation of written protocols and execution and optimization of processes/experiments.
· Transfer of fermentation and down stream processing technology to cGMP Production Unit.
· Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
· Storage and cultivation of Laboratory, Master & Working seeds.
· Laboratory management and inventory keeping.
· Contribute to projects within the scientific discipline and will use professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve problems in creative ways.
· Engage in high quality science as demonstrated by publications, patents or completion of projects.
· Comply with all pertinent safety policies, rules and regulations.
· Perform effectively on multi-disciplinary project teams and maintain a high level of professionalism while interacting with team members as well as other company employees. |
